Consistency

Do six touchpoints tell one story?

Consistency means your profile, website, bios, talks, content and the way you introduce yourself all tell the same story.

People meet you in fragments: a LinkedIn profile, a speaker bio, a conference introduction, a website, a post, a conversation. Each fragment either reinforces the same story or quietly contradicts it.

Inconsistency is the most common weakness I see in senior leaders, and it was my own lowest score when I ran the audit on myself. Old bios survive on third-party sites. Titles change on one platform and not another. The photograph is ten years old in one place and current in another. None of this is fatal on its own. Together it makes people unsure who you are.

The fix is unglamorous: one source of truth for your bio, figures and photographs, and a habit of checking every touchpoint against it.

When it is missing

  • Your bios on different sites give different titles or numbers.
  • Your profile photograph varies from platform to platform.
  • Event organisers rewrite your introduction because they could not find a current one.
  • Your website says something your LinkedIn profile does not.

One practice for Monday

Put your LinkedIn profile, website, speaker bio and spoken introduction side by side and rewrite the one that tells a different story.
